Yes, they are. They're harder for the reader to notice, not to mention poor white space discipline leaves your code confusing whether or not the braces are there.
Also, as is plainly shown in this article, it's not just the syntax (which Javascript copied off Java for brand recognition, not for any particular usefulness). Notice the for loop. Why should you revert to C-style explicit indexing? It's falling back to the level of a 1970s assembly preprocessor for no more reason than tradition, and it's both tedious and error prone.

Thanks for the great work. One note, on the "light" version, the XML declaraction should be before the comment (as in the "dark" version) as opposed to after the header comment. This was causing Notepad++ to crash when importing the scheme.

The best way to avoid falling into global?? Are you kidding me?!
If anything because of a misplaced ";" from copy/paste it's more likely to run into that. Plus it's so easy to make mistakes like that.
Heck! I might add and extra semicolon if a big fly come down on it or when pressing right shift :P.

Besides that it's just like RichardReich said you have to verify syntax when copy/paste, why on earth whould you do that?

Hoisting is no problem, you don't have to use single var to avoid it.

I keep declarations like this
var x = [], y = []; // init
var i, j, k;
var result = godKnowsWhatInsaneStuff();

Oh yes I do have some extra bytes because of "var". But wait there are tools that compress js.I do have to agree that it improves readability. But try using format in Eclipse, see what happens ;)

There is simply no need to deal with attributes except for very specific workarounds, such as properties corresponding to form attributes being overwritten by equivalently named inputs inside the form. Outside those workarounds, what benefit does using attr() over prop() for properties corresponding to attributes bring?

I totally agree that the Nightlies of Firefox are super fast but for the purposes of this test, I only used publicly, stable releases.

Wow, these are awesome themes for notepad++. Thank you!
Just installed both the dark and light versions and absolutely love them. All I had to do was italicize the comments and I was all set.(for anyone that runs across the 'error' on install, make sure you click the 'download' button on github to get the correct xml files - copy paste them into the themes folder inside of notepad++ and you're good to go...)

In facebook im trying to get the objects returned by json. I get "Success" but every time I try to access the objects through java Like: result.name or result.id or result.message where result is from:

It's a good article but I'm not sure I see the benefit to CoffeeScript. It's adding another layer of syntax abstraction instead of just writing good JavaScript code? Are semi-colons and braces worse then strict white space discipline?
